UN to convene a Climate Ambition Summit in September 2023 to achieve a Climate Solidarity Pact

UN Secretary-General António Guterres announced he will convene a Climate Ambition Summit in September 2023, to generate “new, tangible and credible climate action” to “accelerate action at the mid-way point” of the SDGs. Guterres said he is seeking to achieve a Climate Solidarity Pact, for all big emitters to “make an extra effort” to reduce  emissions in line with a 1.5 degree target, and provide support for those in need. The price of entry for attendees to the summit will be “credible, serious and new climate action and nature-based solutions that will move the needle forward and respond to the urgency of the climate crisis.”
