Net Zero Framework for Shipping stays on course despite pressure to weaken it

The IMO’s Net-Zero Framework for Shipping framework has withstood pressure by the United States and other fossil fuel producing states and industry groups to dismantle key elements of the global shipping Net Zero Framework, such as the removal of its carbon levy and decarbonisation fund, and will be the basis of ongoing discussions. Key discussions at the MEPC84 meeting included engagements on a proposed fuel intensity standard and a GHG pricing mechanism, with adoption aimed for late 2026.
