Egypt, EU Discuss Applying CBAM To Advance Green Transition

Egypt is interested in enhancing its cooperation with the European Union (EU) on the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). In an interview with the Egypt Independent, Egypt’s Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad has stated that the goal is to implement the CBAM in line with the Egypt-EU Partnership Agreement, and that supports Egypt’s green transition and greenhouse gas emissions reductions. The CBAM would target emissions from Egypt’s heavy industries such as cement, aluminium, and fertilisers. In turn, the EU’s allocations to Egypt are expected to increase to 9 billion euros by 2027.
