South Pole, the world’s largest seller of carbon credits, has announced that it has ended its participation in its flagship forest protection (REDD+) project in Zimbabwe pursuant to allegations that it had exaggerated its emissions reductions. In October, the body that issues the credits, VERRA, publicly stated that: “the Kariba REDD+ Project represents an unprecedented situation featuring a shocking amount of alleged malfeasance” On this basis it has announced an investigation into the project and has halted further credit issuance.
