In the wake of the US withdrawing from the Paris Agreement and halting its contributions, former mayor of New York, Michael Bloomberg has announced this week that he will ensure the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) remains fully funded. “From 2017 to 2020, during a period of federal inaction, cities, states, businesses, and the public rose to the challenge to uphold our nation’s commitments – and now, we are ready to do it again,” Bloomberg said in a statement. Bloomberg is a UN Special Envoy on Climate Ambition and Solutions. The US ordinarily finances about 22% of the UNFCCC’s budget.
