It has been rumoured by Reuters that President Joe Biden next week will announce U.S. support for the African Union’s admission to the G20 group of the world’s largest economies as a permanent member, according to a White House official. Should the proposal succeed, it would strengthen Africa’s negotiations within the G20 including on issues of climate and energy.
