African Continental Power Master Plan says Africa must triple electricity by 2040

The Continental Power Master Plan for Africa states that the continent must triple electricity generation by 2040 if it is to achieve its electricity SDGs. The plan was initiated in 2019 after African Energy Ministers called for an energy blueprint.  According to a report by ESI Africa, renewable energy contributes approximately 22%, but investments are not evenly distributed across the continent.  The Plan said committed and candidate generation projects in regional Power Pool master plans for the next 10 to 20 years would support the transition towards clean energy solutions
