African Climate Week may be cancelled

As a result of “severe financial challenges” the UNFCCC has said that it will be unable to host its annual regional climate weeks, including the African Climate Week, until further notice. During a climate summit in Denmark last week, executive director Simon Stiell. made a plea for donor countries to come up with more funding for the body. The UNFCCC is currently short of $85 million in its operational budget, which will need to be secured through voluntary donations. Addressing a group of 40 Ministers Stiell said “We are attempting to meet an ever-growing mandate. Our job is to make your job easier. To carry out the tasks you have all agreed we should do, but we can only do this if we have the funding support.”
