EU Climate Commissioner Calls for Smaller More Ambitious Climate Groups to Take the Lead

EU Climate Commissioner, Wopke Hoekstra said on 1 June, that the outcomes of the latest UNFCCC climate summits have fallen short of what is needed by science. “If you look at what the problem actually needs and where the bar should then be, and what most of the COPs of the last five, six, seven, eight years have delivered, then you ‌just have to admit that that was underwhelming,” At an event hosted by  Politico in Brussels he added that while it was important to continue working at the COPs, it was also necessary to do so in small groups where countries are willing to be more ambitious and move faster to address climate change.
