Figueres: Is Climate Diplomacy becoming Climate Economics?

Christina Figueres, former Executive Secretary for the UNFCCC, recently wrote on how the “potential for impact” is shifting away from climate diplomacy and towards climate economics. In a LinkedIn post, Figueres noted that this shift is occurring outside official COP venues, pointing to Climate Weeks in New York, London, and other cities around the world. “These Climate Weeks represent what the UNFCCC might call the ‘real world’ – the one transitioning far faster than the international political process,” wrote Figueres. She suggested that it might be time for a more independent platform and large-scale, sectoral convenings could be suitable avenues for climate action to take centre stage.
