UNFCCC Executive Secretary Simon Stiell has warned that the body requires more funding to fully implement its work. In a recorded speech at the Bonn Climate Conference, Stiell said that “the acceleration still needed will only be possible if our process is adequately resourced.” Particularly underfunded activities include communications campaigns promoting the UNFCCC’s achievements, facilitating civil society participation in the process and capacity building for young negotiators. The UNFCCC’s budget also led to limited availability of interpretation services at the Bonn talks.
