Taiwan passes a climate law that includes a carbon border tax

Taiwan’s legislature recently passed a “Climate Change Response Act,”. It contains various GHG mitigation measures, one of which includes a  carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM), or tax on imports of carbon intensive products designated by regulatory authorities. In 2021, Taiwan imported around 3.99 billion U.S. dollars worth of goods from the African countries. Taiwan’s proposed tax follows the EU’s proposed CBAM due to come into effect this year.
