South Africa energy minister vows change with ‘aggressive’ renewables rollout

South Africa’s Minister for Energy and Electricity Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has committed to accelerating the country’s transition away from coal to renewable energy sources. South Africa is one of the world’s top greenhouse gas emitters and relies on coal for its electricity output. Ramakgopa has stated his goal for the country to be a leader in renewable energy in Africa, and intends to engage with private and public stakeholders to address delays in the development and uptake of renewable energy.
