The Pan African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA), representing more than 1,500 organisations from 51 countries across Africa, is reported to have welcomed and wholly supported the statement from the EU and US parliamentarians urging the United Arab Emirates, the host of the UNFCCC-COP28, to withdraw Sultan Al Jaber as the COP President-Designate. They fear that the Jabar’s ties to the fossil fuel industry and other corporate interests, creates a conflict of interest, and that it will enable the private sector to influence negotiations ultimately undermining the science and the goals of the Paris Agreement.
