NCOP approves Climate Change Bill

South Africa’s National Council of Provinces has approved the Climate Change Bill, the country’s landmark legislation on climate change response and transition to a low-carbon and climate-resilient economy. Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment Minister Barbara Creecy lauded the Bill’s approval, stating that it “will provide the much-needed legal framework to regulate activities that contribute to climate change…and maximise the opportunities afforded to our economy by the global shift to a green economy.” The Climate Change Bill is expected to be passed into law shortly.
