EU proposed Omnibus Regulation that reforms and delays Sustainability Laws criticised for Political Opportunism

The European Union’s omnibus regulation package aims to reduce some of the regulatory burden associated with a host of new climate and sustainability laws on companies in the region. But many have raised concerns over the approach.   The initiative has sparked debate about its potential impact on key regulations including the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD- which relates to sustainability reporting) and Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD- which relates to supply chain due diligence). Andreas Rasche, Professor and Associate Dean at Copenhagen Business School, spoke to Sustainability Magazine argued that “changes to the scope and timeline of regulations like CSRD and CSDDD are not simplifications, they stand for a deregulation agenda that reflects political opportunism.”
