Energy transition at centre of discussions in environment committee and thematic session

The United States and Kenya co-hosted a session on trade and clean energy transition during the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) second Committee on Trade and Environment (CTE) .

The meeting’s discussions focused on previously submitted proposals related to trade and climate change, trade in emerging clean energy technologies and how trade policies can support a shift to clean energy. Both Kenya (on behalf of African, Caribbean and Pacific states) and the United States submitted new proposals on trade and climate change, and the Committee received updates on programmes including the European Union’s Green Deal, the UK’s forest risk regulation and the Dialogue on Plastics Pollution. The CTE is scheduled to meet again from 19 to 20 June.
