Court rules Netherlands is failing to do enough to achieve the 1.5C goal and protect Bonaire

On January 28, 2026, The Hague District Court ruled that the Dutch government is failing to adequately protect citizens from climate change and is not doing enough to meet the 1.5°C global warming limit. The court ordered the state to set binding emission reduction targets within 18 months and improve protection for the vulnerable island of Bonaire.
