Recent remarks by President Xi Jinping indicate a desire for China to take a leadership role on global climate policy. At a virtual meeting of global leaders co-chaired by the UN and COP30 hosts Brazil, Xi committed to more aggressive reductions of greenhouse gas emissions across all sectors of China’s economy. This comes after China recently released timelines for its carbon emissions trading market, expanding it to include cement, steel and aluminium.
