Brussels, New Delhi agree to work together on CBAM

During a visit to New Delhi, representatives from the EU Commission said that it will work with India to help the country adapt to the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism. The announcement coincides with ongoing negotiations for an EU-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which will include an upgrade of customs cooperation. The Commission’s Director General Gerassimos Thomas stressed that the CBAM will not have a negative impact on EU-India relations: “The importance of EU-India relations is growing. Both sides want to deepen this relationship to benefit business. CBAM makes sure that imported goods are treated equally to goods produced in the EU. It does not discriminate and has a very-gradual phase-in to give maximum predictability for investors and business.”
