AU to develop a Common African Position on Climate Change, Peace and Security

The African Union Commission (AUC) hosted a three-day consultation on the development of a Common African Position on Climate Change, Peace and Security. Held in Nairobi, Kenya, the meeting brought together AU Member States, Regional Economic Communities and Regional Mechanisms (RECs/RMs), African Climate Commissions, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), representatives of academia, specialists and other regional stakeholders. The consultation’s aim is to address climate change-related peace and security risks, and to bridge gaps in policy, technical capacity, funding and decision-making processes. The outcome of the meeting will contribute towards a Common African Position on Climate Change, Peace and Security and an actionable framework for better responses and collaboration between local, regional and national stakeholders.
