Annual Meetings 2024: Reforming the global financial architecture to free up financing for Kenya and in Africa overall

Addressing Africa’s debt burden is a key priority for the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) at its annual meetings in Nairobi. Creating new financial mechanisms to address debt and free up funds for climate policies and initiatives is on the agenda for the discussions, and will position Africa in the global effort to address climate change. The AfDB’s pledge to support Kenya’s private sector as outlined in the 2024-2028 Country Strategy Paper for Kenya demonstrates how countries like Kenya want to pursue adaptation initiatives covering agriculture and renewable energy, but lack the funding to do so.
