The Asian Development Bank (ADB), which partnered with Indonesia to launch its first coal retirement deal last November, said that completing one of these transactions is key to providing others with a model to follow. “Too many people are talking about this. What they really need to do is to get one of these transactions done,” Jackie Surtani, regional director of the ADB, said. Each project and country has its own “bespoke” issues, with no “simple magical answer”, said Surtani.
