Liberian policymakers are almost done with the nation’s framework for carbon credits. But local NGOs are apparently dissatisfied, according to Mongabay, as the feel shut out of a fast-tracked final review of the policy. According to the previous version, communities would stand to obtain at most 50% of the revenue, however, civil societies object to this amount, particularly where communities own the land outright. Dayugar Johnson of the NGO Coalition objecting to the policy stated, if a community owns something 100%, “why should 50% come to me?” . However government has stated that the draft includes free and prior informed consent as a core policy, and that civil society groups have had ample opportunities to comment on it.
