South Africa agrees new climate loan, critical minerals cooperation on Germany visit

South Africa and Germany have reached an agreement on a $234 million ‌concessional climate loan, which will support investment in South ​Africa’s energy sector. Additionally, the two countries agreed to deepen cooperation in other areas like critical minerals. The agreement comes after a meeting between South Africa and Germany’s foreign affairs ministers. South Africa’s Foreign Affairs Minister Ronald Lamola thanked his German counterpart Johann Wadephul for German support in the face of South Africa’s relationship with the US under President Donald Trump’s second term.
