Cameroon to Commence Carbon Tax Policy While Tanzania Proposes Carbon Price

Cameroon is reportedly set to commence work on the design of a national carbon tax policy in July, as part of an effort to lower emissions and generate revenue for the national fiscus. Meanwhile industry leaders participating in public hearings on Tanzania’s budget for 2025-2026, have objected to proposals of a carbon price for the country. According to the Chanzo, the budget contains a proposed excise duty under the Excise (Management and Tariff) Act which introduces a carbon tax of US$8 per metric ton of carbon emitted from coal and natural gas. This duty is likely to impact the manufacturing, sale, and use of carbon-emitting goods from coal and gas.
