Presented by G20 Sherpa and Director-General of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation Zane Dangor, the G20 Presidency briefed the UN General Assembly on South Africa’s priorities for its G20 Presidency. Acknowledging the complexity of global polycrises, the G20 Presidency highlighted solidarity, equality and sustainability as key pillars for its theme for this year’s summit. The Presidency created three task forces on inclusive economic growth, industrialisation, employment and reduced inequality, food security and artificial intelligence, data governance and innovation for sustainable development. The address emphasised the G20 Presidency’s commitment to strengthening disaster resilience and response, ensuring debt sustainability for low-income countries, mobilising finance for a Just Energy Transition and harnessing critical minerals for inclusive growth and sustainable development.
