African Leaders Join African Development Bank’s Call for Action to Reform the Global Financial Architecture at its 2024 Annual Meetings

At the recently held AfDB annual meetings, six African presidents supported appeals to reform global financial architecture in order to unlock resources and accelerate Africa’s economic transformation. Almost 5,000 delegates attended the meetings, with representatives from multilateral development banks, civil society, and the development and private sectors. The highlights of the meetings included Kenya’s president William Ruto announcing a $20 million commitment to the African Development Fund and a keynote address from AfDB President Dr. Akinwumi Adesina which outlined the Group’s initiatives such as the $10 billion Alliance for Green Infrastructure in Africa, the Bank’s Affirmative Finance Action for Women and the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZs) aimed at transforming Africa’s agricultural sector.
