The ECOWAS Commission and the United Nations Development Programme are collaborating towards developing a Regional Resilience Strategy for West Africa. The Strategy’s goal is to address the challenges facing the region, including climate change, conflict, poverty, and disease outbreaks. At a regional workshop in Abuja, Professor Fatou Sow Sarr, Commissioner for Human Development and Social Affairs at the ECOWAS Commission, stated that these challenges necessitate the need for risk reduction in disaster recovery and development: “Through collaboration with UNDP and our stakeholders, we can formulate robust strategies to tackle the multifaceted challenges facing our regions.” The workshop falls under the Sahel Resilience and Climate Security Projects, which is funded by the Swedish and Danish governments.
